The Rainbow Disconnection

I'm all for gay pride. But some prideful gay urban designer needs to put the kibosh on these rainbow crosswalks in West Hollywood. They were unveiled in June for the festivities, but now City Council has voted to make tackiness a permanent feature of this otherwise beautiful city.

The rather vile site wehoconfidential.com trumpeted this decision, with only a couple neg comments. I like them, tho: driving and treading on the rainbow flag is not prideful.

Also, it looks like a pre-school chalk project.

Haven't been to WeHo for over a decade, but even then it did NOT strike me as much as a gayborhood as Lakeview in Chicago or even Hillcrest in San Diego. Have been back to both SD and Chicago, and I think they are doing it right.

I like them! Especially when viewed coming down San Vicente with the titanic PDC Red, Green & Blue buildings in the background.
Plus, with the mainstreaming of Gay, the neighborhood is losing its color- gone are Different Light Bookstore and Don't Panic. Meanwhile, The Abbey is turning straight- so it's nice to see a bold, colorful reminder of diversity.

'Otherwise beautiful city' is stretching it....
'Otherwise fucking dump' would have been more suited.
