Whether I'm a fan or not, I'm always fascinated when people make a name for themselves via the blogosphere. I'm particularly interested when they find publishing success, like The Bloggess did. So when I read in the New York Times that Fuck! I'm in My Twenties blogger Emma Koenig signed a deal with Chronicle for a book to be sold in Urban Outfitters, I was duly impressed. (She received a $10,000 advance.) Koenig's site is clever, with its snarky lists, drawings and musings, plus the occasional video. (THIS one was particularly cute.) I happened to see a copy of the finished book over the weekend and while it's a nice continuation of her blog, the opening paragraph (pictured) immediately made me think of something my friend Frank said at brunch the other day, something I suppose the blog's title should have tipped me off to already:
"The only thing worse than an old person who thinks they're young is a young person who thinks they're old."
Kids today! If you're too embarrassed to be seen in an Urban Outfitters, you can order the book HERE.

"A dark storm cloud settled atop my head, raining down furiously..." Now that is craptastic overextension of a metaphor at its finest. Now that we all blog, there's no such thing as a meritocracy.
