Edward Hopper's New York

Based on the emails I got, I wasn't the only one who loved the New York Times' recent slide show that revisited the buildings Edward Hopper depicted in his paintings. Those were all on Cape Ann, the site of some of his most famous work. But what I'd love to see now is a second slide show of his city paintings. This morning, my friend David sent me this shot of Bleecker Street (below) that he passes regularly. Although legend has it that Hopper's "Early Sunday Morning" (above) was based on a building on Seventh Avenue, David points out that the artist frequently provided erroneous information about his paintings' addresses to throw people off track, so I think he's right about this one. As he puts it:, though: "Whatever the truth, that block will always be Early Sunday Morning to me and always makes me very happy when I pass it (regardless of the slow-walking European tourists in my way)." So what do you say, Julie Bosman and Gail Albert of the New York Times? It sounds like David would even be willing to help!

Hey Kenneth thanks for all the Hopper, I'm a fan too. BTW, yesterday's link said the houses were on Cape Ann.
