A spotlight on today's lead stories on the covers of New York's major papers:
The New York Post: Sex-fiend cop to die in jail / Read HERE. (I have a major problem with this one: The fucking jury could not reach a verdict on the actual rape charges against this guy, so the judge sentences him to 75 years for sexual assault? That's longer than some people get for murder. I believe the jury is 100 percent wrong, but what's the point of having a trial if the judge is going to decide the verdict anyway? The DA needs to retry this asshole and if/when they get a conviction, then you can put him away for 75 years.)

The New York Daily News: Ex-NYPD cop Michael Pena gets 75 to life in gunpoint sex assault on teacher / Read HERE.

Kenneth -- Okay, I read both the Daily News and Post stories about Pena. This was not a bench trial and the judge did not issue any findings, that was up to the jury. Per the articles, the jury deadlocked on the 4 rape charges but found Pena guilty of the forcible sexual assault charges and the gun charges.
Again, per the articles, NY law provides a sentence of 10 to life for the forcible sexual assault. The judge gave this asshole the maximum. Reading the judges comments, the maximum sentence does not seem extraordinary, rather, the culprit committed an insidious sexual assault of force with a loaded weapon, threatening death, intimidation, and false authority of his badge. All things considered, a maximum sentence does not seem out-of-line to me.
That there are murderers who receive lighter sentences is a matter of those convictions and does not lessen the actions of this (per the judge) sexual predator.
He did the max in his crime, let him do the max in his sentence.
