If you had told me 30 years ago that I would stop going to Blondie concerts because they were touring TOO MUCH, I'd have looked at you like you had arrow through your head. But once you've got the touring machine well-oiled -- and Social Security looms -- I guess they figure they might as well keep it going. This time around Debbie and the boys will tour with seminal New Wavers and old pals Devo, whose work I've always respected but whose albums I never bought. (Hey, it beats that New Cars smell!)
So far, only West Coast dates have been announced. But I might actually have to go if Debbie does Devo's spasmodic "Come Back Jonee," like she did while hosting "Saturday Night Live" back in '81. It's not like anyone's forcing me to go, but with my childhood idols dropping likes flies, it probably makes sense to enjoy 'em while I can.
