RIP, Dick Clark

Dick Clark, who filled my teenage years with endless enjoyment -- from "American Bandstand" to "Pyramid," a game my family still plays every time we get together -- has died at 82. He will be missed but never forgotten. Here's my all-time (surprise) favorite "Bandstand" moment, when Blondie appeared in May of 1979. Debbie Harry seemed to enjoy mocking the whole lipsynch business -- what would the blondes of today think of that?! -- and Dick's attempt at interviewing these street-smart New Yorkers -- a long way from his hometown of Mount Vernon -- was excruciatingly wonderful!

Thank you, Dick Clark, for being such a pleasure to watch over all the years. You are a real legend in the business and will be sorely missed.

When I was very young, I actually got to be in the audience for the $10,000 Pyramid! It was still taped in NYC, at the old Ed Sullivan theater (now, of course, home to David Letterman.)

The celebs were Bernadette Peters (very nice, signed autographs) and Tony Randall (bitchy, no autographs). Dick Clark was awesome.

It was a blast!
