I thought the Natalie Portman film was an overrated, derivative piece of crap. But I'd totally watch something based on THIS. (Am I mistaken, or did the poor guy's father-in-law basically call him a pussy?)

I don't think he was insinuating that at all, I think he was simply saying the Son-in-Law was trying to do what he thought was right but it didn't work. So tragic.
Um, having been attacked by one, I can attest to their tenacious nature while defending their territory. Tip: never "get down on their level" to take a photograph of one.
It is a big news story here in the Chicago area - very tragic - he lived out here in the Western 'Burbs.
Adding to what Bart said, there has been some buzz out here about whether any of the witnesses might have been in a position to try to help the guy before the authorities arrived......it's a very distressing story, regardless.
Apparently, the poor guy was fully dressed and wearing boots which pulled him down in the water. It's too bad he wasn't wearing a wetsuit or something that would have allowed him to swim more easily.
Swans are formidable birds. One decided to stand in the middle of our small town Main Street one day. Traffic was blocked for awhile; on land, they are BIG birds.
