Whitney Houston Performs at New York's Gay Pride Pier Dance in 1999

Wow. Just came across this clip of Whitney Houston performing at the Pier Dance during New York's Gay Pride in 1999. I happened to be there that night -- the crowd went WILD! -- and have been thinking about that moment a lot since she died over the weekend. Really happy to see this moment was captured. You'll notice that she took the time to say that a. wasn't gay and b. that she didn't necessarily "approve" of gays. I've never understood why the gays were so into her when she clearly didn't reciprocate.

Interesting. I didn't take that away from what she said at all. There were TONS of gay rumors flying around -- as Kurt Loder mentioned -- so she took the opportunity to say she wasn't gay. But that's about it. Perhaps we hear what we want to hear?

What a DOUCHE MOVE that Viacom has removed the video. Viacom??? It's a public event. Would they be the parent company of the song?

Anyway, it IS disappointing she never admitted to being gay or at least bisexual, which is pretty widely known.

Thanks for the post (its the thought that counts!) i was there as well. I was really hoping to see the clip and see if it was as incredible as i remember! It seems like NY Pride org would have the rights to any video taken from their event and not Viacom. I guess they are preparing to cash in big on her now that she is gone. So sad. BTW, I could care less who she did or did not sleep with and don't think she needed to talk to anyone about it. The souped up versions of her songs were the soundtrack of my coming out years and i am very appreciative of that! if anyone has the clip, please send it to me. I won't tell Viacom or Arista.

We were there, too! Our only Pier Dance to date. Funny, I'd had enough and just wanted to leave -- and then Whitney took to the stage, which made it impossible to get to the exit. Also saw her back in the day at Pine Knob, 1986 if memory serves. Used to be really into her. Not so much as of late. Still, sad to see her go :-(

Thanks for sharing. Sad to see Whitney just go like that. Was all teary eyed during the funeral coverage on tv.

Was able to see this vid back then but alas Viacom took it down. Oh well.
