Casual Tease of War

Ryan Gielen's "Love Bomb and the Pink Platoon" -- about a military experiment gone horribly wrong that turns an entire platoon gay, forcing a washed-up general to learn to love his men and himself in order to survive the spiritual and actual war zone he has just entered -- sounded a little too far out there for me, until I read where the author got the idea: "The book is based on the true story of the military's secret aphrodisiac-testing program. They wanted to sexually arouse the enemy to distract him on the battlefield. It felt like the perfect vehicle to examine the military and government's bizarre fear of all sexuality - -I truly believe that most self-righteous politicians are terrified of their own reproductive organs, and that makes me laugh," he told Brittany the Book Slayer. ("Don't ask, don't smell"?)

He's certainly got that right. Anyone read the book yet?
