Sugar, Sugar

Sorry, I may very well have been the only kid in the '70s who did not read comic books or obsess over cartoons. (I still avoid most animation and annoy my friends and family to this day with my refusal to succumb to "The Simpsons" and "The Family Guy.) In an interview with CNN, Dan Parent, Kevin's creator, said marriage was a natural next step for the character. GLAAD writes: “With Riverdale being a picture perfect image of the reality we live in, it is important for readers to see the diversity of American life reflected in this idealistic universe.”

Ah, growing up in the late '60s - early '70s, I did love my "Archie" Comics! Of course "Batman" was sexier and featured bondage, but I digress.

Years later I worked with a kid newly arrived from South Africa. I asked him about his first impressions of the USA. He told me he was thrilled to visit Morristown, NJ, as it looked "just like Riverdale in the Archie comics".
