Saints Preserve Us

Oh, those silly gay Catholics -- when will they ever learn that their church hates them and they should just move on with their lives? (Sorry, that wasn't very nice. But seriously ... you're like Charlie Brown trying to kick Lucy's football.)

Nonetheless, the director of Religion, Faith & Values at GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) wrote to update us with the following information:

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is meeting in Baltimore this week. As many of you probably know, Daniel Avila just resigned from the USCCB as their "family expert" after writing a column in the Boston Pilot that said that people are gay and lesbian because of the devil.

Several LGBT Catholic groups would like to see the Catholic hierarchy replace him with someone who is more reasonable. They are also promoting that any council on LGBT people should be LGBT identified.

DignityUSA is a founding member of Equally Blessed, a coalition of faithful Catholics who support full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people both in the church and in civil society. Equally Blessed representatives delivered thousands of signatures on a petition calling for an end to anti-LGBT bullying to the Bishops Conference meeting.
