Another headline from last week: First the East Village, and now THIS?

Fearing that the new owner may try to evict them, tenants at the famed Chelsea Hotel have hired a lawyer.

And the historic Famous Ray's Pizza on 6th and 11th in the West Village has closed. The owners say they lost their lease and can't afford the owner's new demands. There have been a lot of disputes over which is the real "Original" Ray's -- but one thing is for sure. This was the first one I ever ate at -- while crashing at a friend's apartment on West 12th Street while in town looking for an apartment in the 1990s -- and it's been there for nearly 40 years. Gothamist notes that "all these confusing iterations of Ray's pizza were immortalized in Seinfeld's 9th season, during an exchange between Jerry and Kramer, when the latter is lost in the Nexus of the Universe." Watch HERE.

THAT is the best Ray's. I've eaten there since 1981. It will be missed.
