RIP, John Dye

Was sad to read that John Dye died of a heart attack on Monday. He was just 47. Best known for his work on "Touched by an Angel," Dye had parts in a lot of '80s flicks -- "Making the Grade," "Modern Girls" and "Billionaire Boys Club" -- but I got to know him best as Todd Barrett, the entrepreneurial Arizona State University student who created the first beefcake calendar in "Campus Man," in which a bunch of my friends and I appeared as extras back in '87. A heart attack at 47 doesn't sound right to me. Will be curious to see what, if anything, else we learn about this handsome man from Mississippi. May he rest in peace.

You never know. A friend of the family, a young woman of 26, died of a heart attack last week. An autopsy showed a previously undiagnosed condition.

On a lighter note: I was obsessed with "Campus Man" Steve Lyons. Great looking guy, and he did some nude modeling (including full-frontal) at some point.

I was 45 when I had a heart attack. A cold virus settled in my heart, caused it to enlarge, which led to congestive heart failure and then to a heart attack. I went from feeling great and able to tackle several flights of stairs with luggage in hand to the heart attack in 30 days. So it is possible, just not likely.
