Mission Accomplished!

The president kept his promise to end "don't ask, don't tell" on his watch, signing the bill into law this morning at the Department of Interior. To all the naysayers out there I say this: What have you done for the LGBT community lately? The next two years will be difficult ones. I hope we -- Democrats (the sane people) -- can pull together and spend more time working against our real enemies instead of railing on our allies, who are oftentimes flawed and selfish, but are the only hope we've got.

As a naysayer, we yelled and screamed and accused and shamed them into actually getting the job done. Don't you even doubt it!

And also as a naysayer I can say I've never been more proud of my votes for Obama in 2008.

It's disingenuous to say Obama accomplished this repeal. His effort died with the first failed vote in the Senate. Everyone declared it a dead issue.

It was Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins that pulled this win out of the trash bin and accomplished it for us. They and the activists who lobbied Republicans to get the votes deserve the credit for this, rather than the HRC and the WH who gave up on it.

To his credit, President Obama kept his promise to sign the legislation. I thank him for what must have been a taxing effort.
