American Swimmer Dies in Open-Water Race

Some tragic news out of the United Arab Emirates. American swimmer Fran Crippen, who took home a bronze medal at the 2009 World Championships, died shortly after falling unconscious while competing in the FINA Open Water 10K World Cup event Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. He was just 26. "Fran was a champion swimmer but more importantly, a tremendous person, and he will be remembered for so many extraordinary qualities," USA Swimming said in a statement.
