Just heard that actor Harold Gould died over the weekend at age 86. I absolutely adored him as Rhoda and Brenda's dapper father, Martin Morgenstern. on the "Mary Tyler Moore" spinoff back in the '70s. Gould's lovable Martin was the perfect counterpart to Nancy Walker's overbearing Ida. (I vaguely remember seeing him on "The Golden Girls," but that was yet another example of why the show didn't really win me over. WHY is Sue Ann Nivens with Rhoda's dad? -- did she steal yet another man?) He had a warmth about him that could not have been acting ... he will be missed.

RIP, Harold Gould

Gould's lovable Martin was the perfect counterpart to Nancy Walker's overbearing Ida. Harold Gould played Miles on THE GOLDEN GIRLS and he also played Barney Gerber, the man who talked Jodie Dallas out of committing suicide on SOAP. He also frequented a few Mel Brooks films like SILENT MOVIE.
Interestingly, Nancy Walker also guest starred on The Golden Girls, on two episodes as Sophia's sister from Italy. She and "Miles" were not on the same episode on TGG, though.
