Page 1 Consider (07/07)

  • The 'Daily' Grind: Good for "The Daily Show" for addressing the Jezebel-fueled rumors that the show is run by a "sexist boys' club." Now could they also address the fact that there are no funny correspondents left? (I cringe through or skip John Oliver's segments and have taken to completely fast-forwarding through all of John Hodgman's, who has never been funny once.) Jon Stewart himself is morphing into a screaming shock jock is also of concern, but at least he's still funny a lot of the time and right nearly all of it. (ArtsBeat)

  • Mighty 'Aphrodite': My pal Robbie Daw interviews Kylie Minogue and reviews her new album, "Aphrodite." (ChartRigger)

  • After Hours: Where Broadway actors go to be the real star of the show. (NYT)

  • So Sorry, He Said: What little respect I had for Levi Johnston has just been completely erased. (People)

  • No 'Manson' Family Reunion: John Waters is not going to be happy about this: One-time Charles Manson disciple and convicted murderer Leslie Van Houten has been denied freedom yet again. Van Houten, 60, has been described by her supporters and prison staff as a model inmate. But Debra Tate, whose pregnant sister, Sharon Tate, was one of seven people slain by the so-called Manson family during two nights in August 1969, said she had collected 60 letters asking the parole board to keep Van Houten behind bars. Tate said she has no doubt that Van Houten has been a model prisoner, but pointed out that she thrived only in a tightly controlled environment. (ABC News)

  • Hawaiian Punch: I have just two words for twice-divorced Gov. Linda Lingle of Hawaii, who yesterday vetoed "same-sex civil unions" because it's "essentially same-sex marriage by another name": fuck you. (LA Times)

  • High 'Fidelity': Chrissie Hynde goes from learning to crawl to robbing the cradle with her new musical partner, JP Jones, and the results are magical. (MSN)

  • Nothing Compares 2 Him: Does Prince think the word Internet is a synonym for his name? (NYDN)

  • Mergers: Congratulations to Mitchell Gold -- who made my fabulous leather sofa -- and Tim Scofield, who were married last month at the Des Moines Art Center "in a wedding that was in some ways a celebration of Iowa, one of five states that permit same-sex marriages." (Vows)

  • Postcard From Outfest: I hear that "Undertow/Contracorriente" is the must-see film at this year's Outfest. Click HERE for tickets to writer/director Javier Fuentes-Leon's feature debut, described as "a haunting tribute to the power of the heart and the painful consequences of love denied." From a script he developed as an Outfest Screenwriting Lab fellow in 2003 and set in an exotic Peruvian fishing village, "the film's romantic complications, familial assembly and loyalty to tradition evoke Shakespearean themes."

As the HuffPo pointed out, though, the Daily Show response loses some of its steam when you peruse the list of cosigners and trace which positions they hold. Signing as a "writer, 5-year employee," is a bit disingenuous when you were a receptionist for much of that time.
