Wow!

I didn't even bother watching the women's final live -- the matchup didn't exactly sound exciting -- but a review of the tape has me pretty awed. While it certainly would have been "better" for the game had Samantha Stosur won, it's hard not to be happy for the Italian veteran Francesca Schiavone. Mary Pierce presented the winner's trophy, but somehow I'm thinking the French tennis officials are kicking themselves for not having Iva Majoli on hand for this seemingly improbably outcome.

LOL Iva Majoli !

I hope J-Cap gets to present the trophy next year. It will be 10 years since her win.

It was much fun to watch! Imagine, a 5'5" v. 5'7" in the finals; to get there, the two women had to overcome women 5'10" to 6"1". They showed great poise and skill. And watching match point, well you couldn't not just break out smiling for the Italian victor.

Just turned on the men's final. Looking forward to a fun match. Nadal is a personal favorite; I spotted him in his fourth round match in his first French Open, and told my BF that night that there was this kid who was so impressive I thought he had the ability to go all the way. That was 6 years ago. Sodderling is a growing talent, so I'm looking forward to good tennis -- and let he winner enoy his fruits.
