I immediately thought of Ricky Martin. His late-in-life coming out received more attention, no? Does Murphy have some sort of issue with Hayes that made you think he was referring to him specifically? Just curious...
Coming out is a very personal decision - no one has the right to judge others especially in hollywood where it sadly still matters if you want non-gay oriented or action roles as an actor. In Chris's case here in Glee, who would have thought otherwise?
I think he was talking about Ricky Martin??
I guess Ricky Martin would work, too. It just seemed more "young person on a TV show" to me. Funny how we perceive things so differently. They both work -- both got big in the late '90s!
