Make Me a Homophobe

Oedipus Wrecks

No sooner did I get done listening to Patti Stanger spew gay stereotypes for an hour on the season finale of Bravo's "Millionaire Matchmaker" did I see this clip from Bravo's "Make Me a Supermodel" over on "The Soup," in which single mom/supermodel wannabe -- and real-life "hypnosis assistant"(!) -- Amanda explains her foolproof plan to ensure that her son turns out heterosexual:

"I'm really, really open with my son like, I don't want him to become like, I mean, no offense like, gay when he's older. so like I'm always naked in front of him now."

Oh, no offense taken, dear. That should do the trick. (If ONLY my mom had been conscientious enough to do the same.) This is the same solid advice James Dobson offered, only he thinks it's important for Dad to show his son his cock in the shower to ensure maximum heterosexuality.

(Are we sure Bravo isn't being run by Fred Phelps & Co.? Even though you could argue that showing these people for who they really are is just part of "reality" television, I don't see any other network get away with AIRING other people making these kinds of homophobic remarks on national TV all the time. Am I wrong about this? In all fairness, I don't a lot of the non-Bravo reality shows.)

!_! Wow. Sometimes the vast stupidity of people astounds me.

Uhh, when I grew up, my mom was naked around the house pretty much all the time. By the time I hit puberty, I was so sick of seeing boobs and vajayjay. I think that turned me even MORE gay.

So... yeah, I don't think Amanda's trick is gonna work. =P

That seems to be a bit twisted. Prade around your son naked so he can have even more complexes when he hits puberty, sure, let's make him a sociopath instead. Just as long as he's not a homo!

God. Some people.

That woman is hilarious. Wouldn't that in reality be a sure fire way to ensure that your son turns away from women as much as possible. Why would it be a good idea for him to always think of his mother naked when it is about to have sex.

I guess the apprehensions about homosexuality is so ripe in some places tittering on the incest taboo as a necessary evil is Okay. Who would have figured.

I disagree with your stance. I think Bravo aired her saying that because of how ridiculous it was. She is not portrayed on that show as a strong person; she is a lost, insecure little girl. I think demanding censorship is an overreaction.

Best laugh of the say so far. Thanks.

In my old life as a teacher, this student of mine came out to her father. He went crazy, but then made this suggestion: he said she was probably into girls because she was never with the right guy. He offered his services.

She went to her room and packed her stuff. Moved out that night.

Some straight folk are sort of slow.
