Datebook: Sunday, May 17

OK, he may not be perfect. But Gov. David Paterson has long been loyal to the LGBT population. To show him how much we appreciate this -- and because we are tired of being treated as second-class citizens in the eyes of the law -- supporters of marriage equality are being asked to gather outside the governor's Manhattan office on Sunday afternoon for a counter rally against hatemonger and state Sen. Ruben Diaz, who is holding his own anti-LGBT event intended to scare fellow senators into voting against the marriage bill.

The NYPD has been told to prepare for between 10,000-20,000 attendees. Let's make sure our voice is heard -- don't forget your THANK YOU, GOVERNOR PATERSON signs -- and that Diaz and others like him understand that equal protection under the law cannot be based on individuals' religious views.

On Sunday join us not in a fight against our dissenters, but in a gesture of support for Gov. Paterson, who has supported us.
