Meet the Meds

Wow! More shocking news from the world of New York baseball. First came reports that a new biography about steroid-user Alex Rodriguez alleges the Yankee slugger has "struggled" with his sexuality over the years (um, his wife did say he was OBSESSED with Madonna, but not in a sexual way!) and favors she-male types (heads up, Cynthia!). Now comes word that 12-time All-Star Roberto Alomar has been sued by an ex-girlfriend who claims the former Met had unprotected sex with her while he had full blown AIDS. Although Alomar is hardly the household name Magic Johnson was back in 1991, he was a HUGE star up until his retirement in 2005 -- for "health reasons" -- and is considered by many to be one of the best second baseman in history. According to the suit, the Salinas, Puerto Rico, native told his ex that when he once was raped by two Mexican men after playing a ballgame in New Mexico. (The print version of the story reported that the raped occurred when he was 17, but the online edition edits that out.) It's hard to know what to believe in this whole sad affair. His camp is saying the lawsuit is "frivolous" and his health is "good," but that's not exactly a denial. With the known promiscuous lifestyle of professional athletes (herpes sores?) and the rampant steroid use in baseball (possible needle sharing?), there seem to be a couple of ways Alomar could have contracted HIV. But the fact that Alomar -- who was a switch-hitter (huh-huh) -- would bring up the decades-old rape hints to me that he's covering his, pardon the pun, bases to possibly explain away a secret bisexual lifestyle. We shall see ...

sometimes you go a little too far with your anti-steroid bias. needle sharing???? crystal meth slammers may share needles because they're too high to prepare a new one. steroid users don't need a quick fix. they don't reuse needles. they don't share needles.

Hmmm. Tennis nut that you are I'm shocked that you didn't point out that Roberto was engaged to Mary Pierce for two years just prior to his relationship with this woman.
