Serena on Top!

Last night, Serena Williams did her family, her country and, most of all, herself proud by winning the U.S. Open title for the third time. (Can you believe it's been nine years since her first and six since the second?) I've said it once if I've said it a million times: The Williams sisters are the most gifted athletes the game has ever seen and there is NO EXCUSE for them not to win majors every year. (Well, actually I take that back: there have been way too many excuses.) Venus won Wimbledon in July and now Serena is back at No. 1 with her victory at Flushing Meadows. It's a pity to see people not live up to their potential and it's a joy to see people when they do. Venus and Serena's big wins were most definitely the latter. Should also say kudos to first-time Slam finalist Jelena Jankovic for giving Serena a match. It would have been very easy for her to fade away after losing the first set, and although she blew a bunch of set points, so did Venus. Serena is one tough competitor, so it was a treat to see a women's final with some actual drama and excitement for a change.

As for the other women in the family. Note to Oracene and Venus: when wigs come in a mutlipack of assorted colors, it's probably not a good idea to buy them.

Like Mother, Like Daughter.

Did anyone else think it was weird that Richard Williams (and his hussy) were seated close enough so that they could rush on to the court immediately after Serena's win but Venus and Oracene were up in the players box (which ha sbetter views but is incredibly difficult for the player on the court to reach afterwards).

I'm jus' sayin

I wish Serena and Venus were in opposite draw, it would have been a better final. Jelena did a good job nevertheless.
