Bette You'll Love It

(Photo: Carina Salvi)

After enjoying dinner at the Ivy last week in Los Angeles, I ended up getting a late reservation at nightlife "empressario" Amy Sacco's hot restaurant, Bette, in Chelsea last night. Michael and I were overdue seeing our friend Chris, and the bistro's location across the street from his house seemed to make it a perfect idea. Surprisingly, the first-time venture from the woman who brought us Bungalow 8 and Lot 61 is very unpretentious -- more cozy than intimidating, with perfect soft lighting -- and the staff was young and extremely friendly.

For a starter I had the Parmesan Crusted Gulf Shrimp (with crisp artichoke) followed by the Grilled Scottish Salmon with wilted baby spinach and tomato citronette. Michael had the Grilled Strip Steak and Chris had the Spice Roasted Duck. Everything was delicious -- although Michael's side of truffled frites were so good I think Chris and I spent half the night eyeing his plate. (Yum!) It was great catching up with our friend, but something tells me I'm getting too good at this whole eating rich foods in expensive restaurants way of life -- and summer is right around the corner!
