Second That Emotion?

Anyone else spend his senior year of high school pretending he was David Sylvian?

Kenneth, I think we're around the same age (I graduated high school in 1984), but I've never heard of "Japan" or that song! Tragically 80s, isn't it?

What is alarming is the still photo that YouTube uses for the clip. It looks like John Merrick, the Elephant Man!

When I was a kid, I usually adored women: Debbie Harry, Kate Bush, Marilyn Monroe etc. But David Sylvian was the one man that I always liked and wanted to emulate. I even had the long flicky quiff at the front of my hair. I think we called it a 'wedge' in those days.

It was the seventies, that's my excuse!

Yes. And sadly it hasn't changed much!

I loved Japan! "Quiet Life" & "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" were my faves. They wer the esoteric version of Duran Duran and David Sylvian was Nick Rhodes (and mine- although I looked more like a cross between Sara Dallin and Marilyn) evil twin. Thanks for the memories...

Aw man, this makes me happy and embarrassed at the same time! Yes, my sweetheart and I had the matching Japan t-shirts featuring a giant line drawing of Sylvian's face with the Japanese flag "dot" as the background. We thought he was so cool, and I believe I spent most of 83-85 pushing that hairstyle out of my eye.
