Now Entering Overrated 'Country'

How come no one told me "No Country for Old Men" was nothing but a remake of "Friday the 13th," only not as scary? Now I'm reading that Joel and Ethan Coen are considered the favorites for the Academy Award for directing after being chosen best directors by the Directors Guild of America on Saturday night in Los Angeles, and the movie picked up more awards at last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards. (Really? Is this the best we can do?) Sure, I like looking at Josh Brolin running for his life in a pair of Levi's as much as the next gay. But shouldn't you care about at least one of the characters -- and what about that "ending"??? In the words of my great mother, Molly: I don't get it.

Great movie. Incredible cinemetography. The whole point of the movie and the ending is that there are no clean get-a-ways......

Old Country for No Men STANK. I'm glad someone finally said it.

How about the LONG rambling speeches toward (and at) the end.

The Cohen Brothers are like "The Emperor Has No Clothes." No one wants to admit they're overrated.

I will NEVER see another one of their movies again.

what?! "no country" is the best movie of 2007, and the best movie I have seen in years. You should never wait MONTHS to see a movie after it has been overhyped to high heaven. I'm sorry you didn't like it, but you should rewatch after all the hype has died down...it is really phenomenal.

I liked this movie and found it very unique and compelling...but also felt it was very overrated. I loved There Will Be Blood so much more.

Glad you finally mentioned what I thought -- I mean, I see everything that comes out, and I could not stand this movie -- it was as over-rated, over-hyped, and a B-movie at best. What happened to the Coen brothers of Blood Simple and Fargo? NCFOM was just plain awful and certainly not deserving of an academy award for best picture.

I bet if there was a little boy-on-boy kissing scene in this film this comment thread would be a little different. C'mon guys, stop being so predictably gay. NCFOM was a fantastic cinematic experience and I think it's a little sad that the best thing that can be said about it has something to do with Josh Brolin's (who has really come into his own as a great actor this year!) Levi's.

While I haven't seen the film yet, (I've got my SAG screener at home) I'm more shocked by the fact that the ticket stub says "$12.00!"

When will these rising movie prices stop?! Will we REALLY pay $20 to see the crap that Hollywood keeps turning out?
