Page 1 Consider (12/11)

  • Delivering It Persianlly: Just what I need -- more online competition. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's a blogger now too. (Oh, well: Censorship in Iran has been so wide that the president’s blog was once blocked mistakenly along with Google for a day.) (NoGaysHere.com)

  • Go Huck Yourself: My pal Jack E. Jett rips former fatty Mike Huckabee a new one. (And I hope he wasn't wearing a condom.) (Queerty)

  • He Could Afford Blow? Quiet Riot singer Kevin Debruw died of a cocaine overdose. Oops. (AP)

  • Billy the 'Kid': John Schneider is set to join the cast of "Chicago" as the newest Billy Flynn starting Jan. 14. Some 30 years after he famously filled those faded 501 jeans as Bo Duke and Schneider is sexy as ever. (BW)

  • Better to Give Than Receive -- Really: Wile it’s reasonable to cut back on spending during the holidays, psychologists say that banning the gift exchange with loved ones is not the best solution. People who refuse to accept or exchange gifts during the holidays, these experts say, may be missing out on an important connection with family and friends. "That doesn’t do a service to the relationship," said Ellen J. Langer, a Harvard psychology professor. "If I don’t let you give me a gift, then I’m not encouraging you to think about me and think about things I like. I am preventing you from experiencing the joy of engaging in all those activities. You do people a disservice by not giving them the gift of giving." (Was this research funded by the National Retail Federation by any chance?) (ScienceTimes)

  • Ted Haggard Would Have Blown Him Away, Too: A gun-toting mad man, Matthew Murray, killed five people at two churches in Colorado, before being shot him dead himself. Officials said they were still investigating whether a volunteer security guard's bullet killed the man or whether it might have been a self-inflicted wound. The guard, Jeanne Assam, said she leaped up and identified herself, and when Murray did not respond, opened fire. She said she had been on the third day of a three-day fast, praying to God to provide direction for her life. "I knew I was given the assignment to end this," Assam said at a news conference Monday at the Colorado Springs Police Operations Center. "I give the credit to God." I'm sure she'd like to credit her book agent too. It seems to me I've heard this story before. ("Thank God for crytsal meth.") She even looks the same. (NYT)

  • Is Flip-Flopping the New Bi? GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani, appearing on "Meet the Press" on Sunday, explained that he doesn't believe being gay is a sin, but said that heterosexual or homosexual, "it's the various acts that people perform that are sinful." You mean like adultery and lying to cover up for your criminal friends? (Advocate)

  • Rocky Mountain Knee Slapper: Did you hear the one about the white guy who has a "nightmare" in which he wakes up to discover that he has "been turned" into a negro, fairy, Jewish and disabled? You queers must not have been sitting next to Dacona City, Colo., Councilmember Sandra Tucker. (365Gay)

  • He's No Thomas Dolby: An assistant professor of pharmacology from Japan said he was doing research involving embryonic stem cells when he looked down the microscope at one of the human embryos stored at the clinic. The glimpse changed his scientific career. "When I saw the embryo, I suddenly realized there was such a small difference between it and my daughters," said Shinya Yamanaka, 45, a father of two and now a professor at the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences at Kyoto University. "I thought, we can’t keep destroying embryos for our research. There must be another way." If that's what he saw then I'd hate to see what these daughters look like. (ScienceTimes)

That's so true about the (admittedly very heroic) guard who stopped the church shootings with a shooting of her own...that IS an uncannily familiar story. What peeves me so much about Christians is they have the utter lack of shame to say "I was chosen by God to do this" or "God was with me" as if the people who were pointlessly shot and killed weren't with God.
