Page 1 Consider (11/05)

  • Top Gun: Tom Brady's undefeated New England Patriots took on Peyton Manning's undefeated -- and reigning Superbowl champs -- Indianapolis Colts yesterday and my boy came out just where I like him. (Bloomberg)

  • LAPD Landmark: With less than two weeks before a trial is scheduled to begin, the Los Angeles City Council has voted unanimously to approve settlement of the non-damages portion of a lawsuit brought by the Los Angeles Police Department's first openly gay officer. (365Gay)

  • Son of Hoff: Former A&F model and (212) fave Justin Bruening has signed on to play the son of Michael Knight, the lead in "Knight Rider," a updated take on the campy 1982-1986 David Hasselhoff show. (eFluxMedia)

  • In the Zone: David Nalbandian of Argentina, crushed Spain's Rafael Nadal, 6-4,6-0, yesterday in the final of the Paris Tennis Masters tournament. It was Nalbandian's second straight Masters title -- and his second straight win over Roger Federer, whom he beat here in the third round. (AP)

  • Double Jeopardy: An HIV-positive paratrooper pleaded guilty to assault Thursday for knowingly having unprotected sex with a male teenager he met online. Pfc. Johnny Lamar Dalton, who is a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, entered his plea during a court-martial at Fort Bragg. A military judge sentenced Dalton, 25, to 40 months in prison. The sentence included a reduction in rank and a dishonorable discharge. I guess I'm in the minority here, but as wrong as I think it is for HIV-positive people to "knowingly" endanger other people, 25 years into the AIDS epidemic I truly believe it's each individual's responsibility to engage in sexual behavior that they're comfortable -- not to operate on some honor system. Isn't allowing someone to have unprotected with your ass the same thing as telling your partner that you're already positive? (AP)

  • Just Gavin a Good Time: Eight months after admitting he had a drinking problem and an affair with a close aide's wife, pro-gay-marriage San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom stands poised to win his second term without breaking a sweat. You can almost hear a collective "Is that the worst you can do?" coming from the Castro. (AP)

  • Live, From New York! Barack Obama's appearance on "Saturday Night Live" is the talk of the town. (AP)

  • Phone's Off the Hook (but You're Not): It seems that racially charged phone message of television bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman was secretly taped by Dog's son who then sold it to a tabloid for "a lot of money," Chapman's lawyer said Thursday. (I guess $15,000 is a lot of money when you're a reality TV extra.) (AP)

On the unprotected comment, I think saying we all have to be responsible for our own actions is fair, but the onus is not only on a victim and never should be—scammed out of your life's savings? Should have known better, yes. But the scammer still deserves jail. If someone knows he is infected with HIV, he is knowingly infecting others if he has unsafe sex—and knowingly doing bad is something I'm comfortable punishing. There are crimes for which people are prosecuted in which they've done something intentionally, and there are lesser crimes for which people are prosecuted in which they are punished for the outcome of their negligence—but they're both crimes.

As a separate thought, I don't believe that agreeing to have unprotected sex should be interpreted as a signal that either party is already positive. You think, "You wouldn't let me fuck you if you weren't already HIV+, and I wouldn't do it if I weren't, too," but how is that more logical than, "You wouldn't fuck me if you knew you were HIV+, and I wouldn't let you if I were, either."? Both follow, both are too trusting. And both are completely at the mercy of context: Are you meeting in a bar in West Hollywood, or is it your best friend in high school? Is he a married man, or is he a hustler? Does his profile state "no judgments" or "HIV- and trying to stay that way?" Are you an HIV+ army dude and he's 18 years old?

And even all of those potential clues could be wrong. It's stupid not to ask and to think hard about the answer, but it's not illegal to be stupid—or we'd all be in jail—and it is illegal to intentionally give someone a disease.

Although in awe of both why in the hell did Manning put his helmet back on at end of the game? He looks nerdy next to my future husband.

As far as condom use... I was with a guy, having a great time- hot sex, then I looked and realized that he had removed the condom! "It just didn't feel good," he said casually. It's getting to where you can't even trust some anonymous drunk hot guy anymore! I'm going to a doctor to see about having an eye surgically implanted over my butthole. Seriously, it was quite a shock to me, it made me angry, not to mention a real turn off.

I'm a big Justin Bruening fan too. How about this: Justin recently played on All My Children as the son of Tad Martin, played by actor Michael E Knight. Michael E Knight is (was?) married to Catherine Hickland, whose previous husband is David Hasselhoff, the original Michael Knight on KR.
