Be sure to DVR (or even watch) tonight's episode of "The Click List: Best in Short Film" on LOGO (10 p.m. ET), featuring the premiere of "Casting Pearls," a short comedic work that illustrates the difficulties transsexual women face in Hollywood via a hectic series of auditions endured by Cassandra, a transsexual actress. Cassandra, played by Calpernia Addams (whose real life was the inspiration for the film "Soldier's Girl"), weathers the "horrible, funny and cruel things said by various Hollywood professionals with plucky determination and professionalism, showing that decades of bias can't hold back the real contributions of transgender people to the arts and media."
The film was directed by Andrea James, whom I love for using the word transsexual instead of transgender and hope to make my new online BFF by week's end. Andrea said in making the film she and her collaborators hoped it "will make people smile, and we hope it will lead to more positive on-camera opportunities for transsexual people."
Read a Q&A about the film with Andrea here and check out the trailer below.

Calperina is a friend of mine. When she lived in Nashville before her operations she performed as a drag queen at Connections. She is amazing. She plays violin, is SUPER smart, and is so caring. It was a hard time in this area when the incident occured with the army guy. Calpernia you rock!
