Page 1 Consider (08/02)

  • Makin' Whoopi: As expected, Whoopi Goldberg was officially named Wednesday as the new moderator of "The View" but any notion that this puts the Rosie O'Donnell era to rest is wishful thinking on Barbara Walters' behalf. (AP)

  • Murder, He Wrote: I hate to admit it, but O.J. Simpson is completely right about the Goldmans on this one But when you murder someone's family member I guess you earn the right to be hypocritical. (AP)

  • Oops, They Overreacted Again: Britney Spears is clearly a nut, but is it really a crime to want your children to have white teeth? (AH)

  • Eau de Campbell's Soup: Andy Warhol is getting his own fragrance just in time for Christmas. Called the Andy Warhol Silver Factory, once applied the smell lasts just 15 minutes. (CareFair)

  • Did Ask, Did Tell: Adm. Michael Mullen, President Bush’s nominee to succeed Gen. Peter Pace as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, indicated a willingness to revisit the military’s "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy on lesbian, gay, and bisexual personnel during his Senate confirmation hearing Tuesday. (Advocate)

  • Justice Denied: That dick judge the president is trying to put on the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ran into some trouble on Wednesday. (AP)

  • Con Job: Just because you're both convicted felons doesn't mean you can't be gay lovers in Philly. (365Gay)

  • Sticks and Stones: Those lucky Canadians get everything: a cool flag, free health care and cash presents for being picked on for being gay. (CP)

Sorry Ken, but you are totally wrong about OJ Simpson. Let us remember that he savagely murdered two people and the only justice the victims' families ever won in court was money. That may seem tawdry, but sadly, forcing Simpson to pay them for his criminal acts is the only form of punishment that can be visited on him. And has he ever paid them one cent up to now? No. He has laughed at them and at the system as he concocts transparent ploys to avoid paying them such as putting the proceeds from this book in his children's names. It's reprehensible and we should fully support the right of the families to strip him of every penny.

What you're missing (anonymous) is that just because someone who murders your loved one happens to be rich and famous doesn't mean YOU have won the lottery. Hundreds of thousands of victims of heinous crimes do not get justice year after year. Poor families in East L.A. whose children are killed by errant gang bullets don't get millions of dollars for their suffering -- and they don't get criminal justice (usually) either.

Ditto with 9/11 families. I'm sorry your families got killed by terrorists, but LOTS of families lose fathers, mothers, sons and daughters in a myriad of ways and they do not get a HUGE check for the suffering. Life is filled with ups and downs. No one is MORE deserving of compensation for their pain than someone else. Sorry.
