Page 1 Consider (06/25)

  • Strawberries & Cream: Get out your umbrellas, sports fans: Wimbledon starts today! Roger Federer has his retro look down, and is Rafael Nadal actually going to wear normal shorts? (Telegraph)

  • Summer of Love: I'm not the only one who turned 40 this month: the Monterey Pop Festival -- which featured legendary performances by The Who and Jefferson Airplane and launched the careers of Janice Joplin and Jimi Hendrix -- is being celebrated in a loving special this month on VH1. (You won't believe how scary Michelle Phillips looks now!) (Reuters)

  • iHotel: Totally obsessed iPod? Why not stay in a hotel room inspired by the nifty digital music device on your next visit to the Big Apple? (NYDN)

  • Better Know a Senator: I don't know much about Sen. Barack Obama, but I sure agree with this statement he made at a church convention over the weekend: "Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked. Part of it's because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, who've been all too eager to exploit what divides us." (AP)

  • Northern Wusses: Canadian Anglicans inched closer towards blessing same sex unions, but stopped short of giving priests the power to perform ceremonies. The Anglican Church of Canada agreed that same sex blessings do not conflict with its core doctrine, a decision that paves the way for the practice. (365Gay)

  • Barefoot in the Park? I wonder if Lauren Ambrose's sweet Romeo (played by Oscar Isaac) has a foot fetish too. (NYT)

  • Phoenix Storm: It seems gay rugby is a-OK in the Valley of the Sun. (Advocate)

  • Not Just a Nom de Plume: The imaginary truckstop whore JT Leroy, the authorial "other" whom the writer Laura Albert employed as her alter ego and self-protective proxy in the world, was found by a jury in Manhattan to be not just a fictional creation but a fraud. As part of its civil verdict, the jury ordered Albert to pay $116,500 to Antidote International Films, which, in 2003, had signed an option contract with "JT Leroy" to make a feature film of his supposed novel "Sarah," a tale of filial love and prostitution set among the "lot lizards" of a West Virginia truck stop. (NYT)

  • Second Acts: Rocker Duncan Sheik found redemption in musical theater. So what's Maria McKee waiting for? (Maybe I'll ask her next month at Joe's Pub.) (NYT)

  • Love & Pride: The gay communities in New York, Toronto, Chicago and San Francisco marched to the tune of LGBT liberation on Sunday. Hope you had fun. I worked most of the weekend, but I did meet a few nice kenneth in the (212) readers along the way. And having Ken and Jim in town from DC made the weekend extra fun. (365Gay)
