Sporting Goods: Amer Delic

Bosnia-born American Amer Delic lost in the qualifying in Indian Wells yesterday to Alex Bogdanovic, but he sure looked doing it.

A number of other big names are playing in the desert quallies this week, including Jan-Michael Gambill, Ivo Karlovic and Rainer Schuettler. Gambill is likely be in the match of the day on Thursday when he takes on Guillermo Canas, the Argentinean who served a 15-month suspension for testing positive for a steroid. Gambill, who has seen his ranking plummet in recent years, should feel comfortable playing in Indian Wells. He's had a number of good results there, including a semifinal showing '98 (losing to eventual champion Marcelo Rios). Then in 2001, Gambill upset world No. 1 Gustavo Kuerten in the third round. Schuettler was a semifinalist at Indian Wells in 2003, losing to Kuerten in three sets.
