Page 1 Consider (03/02)

  • He Shoots, He Scores! First Matt Leinart then Tom Brady. Now comes word that Welsh rugby stud Gavin Henson is going to be a dad. The object of his affection? Singer Charlotte Church. Will Brady Quinn be next? (BBC)

  • European Vacation: I hear from my pal Jack E. Jett that Belinda Carlisle and hubby Morgan Mason just purchased a house in Austria (will she remake "The Sound of Music" next?). Also, that our girl has been under the weather since visiting the States to promote her new album. Hope she's feeling better. Jack's interview with Babe here ---> (GayToronto)

  • Gay Day in Court: A constitutional challenge to "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" will be heard next week by the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston. About f**king time. The case comes as Congress considers lifting the ban that has resulted in the dismissal of more than 11,000 military personnel over the past decade. (365Gay)
  • Motor City Hate Crime: Police in Detroit released a sketch Thursday of the man suspected of killing Andrew Anthos, a 72-year-old disabled gay man whose dream was to light the Michigan state capitol dome red, white, and blue for Independence Day. Anthos died Feb. 23, 10 days after a fellow bus rider, spouting anti-gay slurs, paralyzed him with a blow from behind with a metal pipe. Police have since questioned several people aboard the bus, including the wheelchair-using friend Anthos was helping through the snow when he was struck. Anyone with information on the slaying is asked to call Detroit police at (313) 596-2260 or anonymously call (800) SPEAK-UP. (Advocate)

  • Nadal Falling: Defending champion Rafael Nadal slumped out of the Dubai Open tennis tournament on Thursday, blaming the linespeople for his losing 7-6 6-3 to unseeded Russian cutie Mikhail Youzhny. As much as the tennis world wants this Nadal-Federer rivalry to have legs I just don't see it. Nadal is and will always be a brilliant clay court player who can occasionally do well on other surfaces. Federer is, well, just the opposite. (Reuters)

  • American Whore: I'm happy to know that even in today's promiscuous times, there are still degrees of sluttiness. (CT)
  • Speak Softly: Hockey legend Mike Richter, who led the Rangers the Stanley Cup in 1994, is considering a run for Congress, in New York's 4th District. He's got my full support. I can think of a few members who could stand to be bashed in the face with a big stick. (AP)

  • Great Writ, Great Schmit: It seems Cameroon treats gay people the same way President Bush treats anyone he damn well pleases. (365Gay)

  • Middle America Monster: Child porn charges have been added to the indictment against Michael Devlin, the Missouri pizza slash funeral parlor weirdo who kidnapped Shawn Hornbeck and Ben Ownby. I'm sure Bill O'Reilly thinks the victims enjoyed this, too. (AP)

  • Liar, Liar: Jurors considering perjury charges against I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby signaled Thursday that they were still working to reach a verdict after seven days of deliberations and did not expect to arrive at one this week, according to a note they sent to the presiding trial judge. What could possibly be taking so long? (WP)

nice to see Misha showing that his run to the USO Semis last year was no fluke. Guy should be top 10 by Roland Garros, the way he is playing of late. And seems to be an all-surface player, which is nice to see these days.

On a related, but different subject: Can someone explain the sheer lunacy that is the collective brainpower of the ATP, wrt the Korolev/Blake/Del Potro 8th of the Vegas RR draw. What a flipping fiasco. First Korolev is in, because Del Potro retired in the Blake match. Then, no, Blakes in, per the ATP. Now, a half hour ago, and about 1 hour before the Blake/Querrey match is to begin, they say no, it's Korolev.

Hopefully, this shameful perfrpmance by the people who write and interpret the rules will be the death knell for the horrible Round Robin mistake.
