When Will I Learn?

Thanks for all the well-wishes for Troy yesterday. It was a long and traumatic day for me my four-legged friend. Yet four hours of our time and $471.30 in X-rays, blood tests and all sorts of poking and prodding, we still have no new information about why he's throwing up so much. Now they want to do an ultrasound -- did I actually think seeing a veterinarian was going to be useful? Didn't I learn anything last time? I'm just happy my little guy is lying on the bed next to me tonight where he belongs. (I did find out he has cataracts --- sooooooo cute!!!)

Ken, I too take my dog to Heart of Chelsea, and though I think they are wonderful, and will continue to take my buddy there, I am always dumbstruck when I get my bill. The last time I went, and my dog had similar symptoms, I paid a little over $700.

We think our 15-year-old cat is bulemic too. She'll be fine for a long time and then just eats too fast and vomits. Ugggh. Poor thing. We put her on soft food and that seems to stay down better. We are looking to get her into a program! It's just food, it's not love.

Vets are a way of life. I would caution you to, as you would with any family member, question the necessity of multiple treatment modalities and to be strong in your stand against too much invasive workup. I hope your baby feels better soon!

Cherie beat me to it -- I was going to say that my cat sometimes throws up for no reason, and it's usually because she eats her dry food too fast. Maybe Troy is eating too quickly or just needs some more digestible food?

Vets in this city are insanely expensive. (But then, why should that be a surprise, right??)

Oh, Kenneth - you got off ligthly! I've spent much, much, much more just to find out nothing is wrong with my baby (a Greyhound named Lillian Marie). ;-)

I'm glad everything seems to be OK though...that is always a huge relief!
