Blonde on Blonde

In the entertainment world's latest admission of being fresh out of ideas, plans were announced to make a film out of the Broadway musical "Hairspray," which you undoubtedly know was actually a film to begin with. (We all saw how well that worked out with "The Producers" the second time around on the silver screen.)

While this phenomenon is certainly tragic, one interesting thing has come out of it. Michelle Pfeiffer has been cast to play Velma von Tussle in the picture, the part played by Debbie Harry in the original 1988 movie.

Ever since I bought the single of "Rush Rush" from the "Scarface" soundtrack and saw the photo of Deb on the cover and Michelle on the back, I was struck by the resemblance between them. Not only do they have matching green eyes and blond hair, their noses, chins, flawless skin, permantly kiss-ready lips and impossibly high cheekbones are remarkably similar.

While getting Michelle Pfeiffer was brilliant, where was a clever casting director when John Travolta was put in for Divine? (If they wanted a Scientologist then I could have seen Kirstie Alley, maybe, but not Travolta). Surely Boy George will have completed his community service in time when filming begins Sept. 5 in Toronto (you know, Canada's answer to Baltimore).
