One Thing About My Baby ...

I watched FX's much-hyped race-swapping reality show, "Black.White.," last night. I don't really know what to say. I was tense the entire time I watched. I found myself disliking all parties involved, with everyone living up to the worst possible racial stereotype imaginable.

The white dad thinks the blacks are looking for racism in everything even if it's not there. The black dad thinks everything is the result of racism no matter what happens. Being white myself, the only thing I took away from the show is that black people are always way cooler than whites, no questions asked. (Rent Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy's "The Man" if you're unclear on this concept.)

God help us all.

Exactly. Jeez, what was the deal with the (real) white guy repeating over and over and over his obsession with being called the N-word? (The black family's reaction was priceless, but I'm hoping their patience wears thin soon.)

His spiel about a positive attitude and all was tiresome, too, but then again the black guy was also insane in that segment. He gets slow service because he's black? Guess I'm black then.

The white girl was great, though. (The Cranberries??) Amazing how much cuter she looks when black.

This show reminds me why I have no tv.
As for blacks being cooler, it's clear you've never met me.

I've many black friends throughout chicago and DC and have, for some reason, just always been in the company of predominately non-white persons. I don't base friendships or lovers on race. so I watched this ridiculous show and also watched "that's what I'm talking about". I always think the shows are going to be cool or something worthwhile. But with these two wastes of film and today's comedians who have to put down any race for a laugh is just mindboggling. I'm glad for your post. Good bloggin'.
