She's a Gay Speaker

Kudos to Christine Quinn who on Wednesday was elected speaker of the N.Y. City Council. She becomes "the first woman to lead the council, no less the first out gay person, and now the second most powerful political leader in the city."

Quinn reportedly wept during a passionate speech to the 51-member council, thanking her father and her partner (read: lovaaaaaaah), Kim Catullo, who looked on from the audience.

Quinn, 39, a Democrat, was elected by a vote of 50 to 0, with one member abstaining (something the Christian Coalition is wishing Quinn herself would do to avoid this unfortunate lifestyle choice).

I'm heartened to see that Quinn joins more than 350 openly gay politicians across America, but I must say that I am a tad concerned about a lezzie who would cry in public. Hold it together, Mary. (Who's the gay speaker now?)
