Chilly Scenes of Winter

It's a chilly winter day here in NYC. I finally ate my first full meal in a week today. We went to my favorite restaurant in the city, a Ukrainian diner in the East Village called Veselka. I figured boiled potato pierogies would be just what the doctor ordered (read: bland). But then I had to go and mess it up and get the kielbasa appetizer. (My stepfather is Polish so we grew up eating kielbasa and saurerkraut. I think I didn't really care for it much as a kid, but now it's my favorite thing ever.) I probably shouldn't have eaten as much as I did (I feel bloated and queasy now), so I'm planning to spend the rest of the day at home keeping warm. My brother sent me an article from the Washington Post about this horrible new stomach bug that has mutated into a medical mystery. Of course I'm convinced I have it. However, I did go to the doctor yesterday and he thinks I'm on the mend, so I am cautiously optimistic. Hope you're having a good weekend and keeping warm wherever you are.

I just recently saw the quirky movie "Chilly Scenese of Winter." I'm not sure if this reference was your intention, but Ann Beattie is my favorite author and it's based on her novel. I see her in passing from time to time down my VA way.

Bon appétit on the pierogies-- sauerkraut ones ROCK. (most of those words should never appear in the same sentence.)
