Sanity Saves the Day?

With the exception of the faux moderate Chris Christie getting re-elected in a New Jersey landslide, it was a sound defeat for social conservatives yesterday: Terry McAuliffe beat homophobic Tea Party nutjob Ken Cucinelli in Virginia, Houston's lesbian mayor, Annise Parker, was comfortably re-elected, Bill de Blasio became the first Democratic mayor of New York City since David Dinkins. (Boy was I wrong about that one!) Plus: Seattle got its first gay mayor in Ed Murray. And, as reported earlier, Illinois became the 15th state to legalize marriage equality. Is American finally wising up? We can only hope. #notholdingmybreath

Election Day

I voted this morning -- can't tell you how good if feels to have candidates who actually reflect the people in my actual life for a change -- but I have to say this. I am grateful for Election Day volunteers, but whoever is in charge really needs to be more careful about which responsibilities they give each person. There was a borderline-illiterate woman running the desk for my district, which caused a bottleneck out to the street while the other districts' tables were vacant. (Not a lot of people vote in these kinds of things -- everyone already knows who will win -- so there should have been no waiting ... EVER.) It was shocking that no one was doing anything to help the poor woman, but equally shocking that they were inadvertently discouraging people from voting. Similar thing happened during the 2012 presidential election -- simply mind-boggling. .

Huge night for Bill de Blasio. If this guy can turn a black lesbian straight, just think what he might be able to do for New York City. #persuasive

Bill De Blasio Rises to the Top

Well, I was rooting for Christine Quinn when I thought she was the best candidate with an actual chance of winning. But now that the Democratic mayoral primary (aka the mayor's race) has morphed into the 2010 GOP presidential primary -- minus the homophobia, misogyny, anti-immigrant rhetoric and race-baiting -- I couldn't be happier that lefty favorite Bill de Blasio is suddenly out front. Only in New York City could a straight white man be the most liberal candidate against a lesbian, a Jew, an Asian, and an African American! Still wish he had a little more charisma -- and you know how much I hate to admit Cynthia Nixon was right about everything -- but this city of progressives hasn't had an appropriate leader in decades. Let's see if his lead sticks. Read HERE.

Weiner Shoots to Top

Surprised to see Anthony Weiner has suddenly pulled even with Christine Quinn, although his name, Twitter cock shots and these pants prove he's willing to do anything to capture the gay vote.
