Weekend Tennis Roundup

Another slow week in professional tennis, with most of the big names competing in that gimmicky Laver Cup in Boston. Full roundup BELOW.

Hubert Hurkacz’s strong season continued on Sunday at the Moselle Open as he defeated second seed Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6(2), 6-3 to win his third ATP Tour title of the year.

The big Pole then came back to complete a double on Sunday as he lifted the doubles trophy with countryman Jan Zielinski, just hours after winning the singles title in Metz. The unseeded pair overcame Hugo Nys and Arthur Rinderknech 7-5, 6-3 in 70 minutes.

South Korean Soonwoo Kwon broke new ground on Sunday at the Astana Open as he overcame hunky James Duckworth 7-6(6), 6-3 to capture his first ATP Tour title.

And over on the WTA, Anett Kontaveit of Estonia defeated No.4 seed Maria Sakkari of Greece, 6-2, 7-5, to claim the crown in the Czech Republic. The WTA 500-level event is the biggest title of Kontaveit’s career and her third WTA singles title overall.

Shocker: Europe won the Laver Cup ... again

Briton Liam Broady captured his maiden Challenger crown by winning the inaugural Flowbank Challenger Biel/Bienne in Biel, Switzerland. The No. 5 seed defeated home favorite and seventh seed Marc-Andrea Huesler 7-5, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.

“I had an amazing week, which I will always remember, as I won my first Challenger title. This is a big moment for me. I made eight finals but never won. I hardly believed any more that I would be able to win such a tournament. The more beautiful it is now,” Broady said.
