Nothing beats the Marvelettes version. But I have to say the Carpenters cover from my youth always put a smile on my face. Even ages before I had a long-distance boyfriend, I could so relate to this song. Getting something in the mail was my favorite thing in the world as a boy -- whether it was a letter from my friends back in Michigan, the latest issue of Dynamite magazine, or something (I didn't order) from the Columbia Record and Tape club. I wonder if kids today would survive a week without the instant gratification of modern technology?!

Is Milo your postman? I thought "Solitaire" was the best song on that album, but I was a 14 year old angst ridden high school freshman.
BTW--maybe you can help me. I have a lyric from a song I believe was in the 80's stuck in my head. This all of it I got 'Romeo, oh, Romeo' and the internet is no help. All I get is Shakespeare, Mindy McReady, and Taylor Swift for some reason.
@Steve: That's Milo, all right!
The only song I can think of from the '80s that mentions Romeo is Michael Penn's "No Myth," which I don't think is what you're thinking of. Sorry.
Perhaps not 'Romeo', but there was... 'Oh... Georgio', and his hit was Lover's Lane in '87, a slice of Janet Jackson/Control-style dance funk. But for my money the best was Bedrock, the Club Mix.
My bf thinks you’re talking about Basement Jaxx’s “Romeo,” but that was from 2001.

The song the person is looking for is "The Bottom Line" by Big Audio Dynamite. It was an 80s song.
