Song of the Day: 'More More More' by Carmel

Here's a blast (almost) from my past. Carmel -- a photogenic Manchester jazz/soul group that like Sade took its name from its female singer (Carmel McCourt) -- was one of those groups I would always fantasize about in high school aftering seeing them in my import music magazines and legendary rock 'n' roll yearbooks, but whose music I never seemed to have access to. Record stores didn't carry them. MTV never played them. "Friday Night Videos" was no better. And even "Rock Over London," the radio show where I discovered Everything But the Girl and Weekend, never gave them the time of day.

Needless to say, McCourt's appearance alone had me salivating -- and I was already swept up in the faux jazz stylings of Matt Bianco, Swing Out Sister, Working Week, the Style Council, etc. -- so you can imagine how thrilled I was this week when London Records' Twitter account announced that more of the band's music would be coming to streaming outlets soon -- as well as some videos on YouTube.

I have waited 40 years for this and I must say I'm not disappointed. The songs I've heard so far remind me of Kim Wilde if Kim had teamed up with a downtown jazz combo instead of her stable of rocker family members, which is to say they're wonderful!

You need to check out "Bad day" which was their biggest hit in the UK.
