Song of the Day: '(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena' by Sandra

Stopped in my tracks to Shazam this when I heard it blaring from the outdoor area of a bar on West 72nd Street over the weekend -- and why am I not surprised to discover that despite its being "new" find it's actually from the year I graduated from high school?!

Sandra was born Sandra Ann Lauer on May 18, 1962, in Saarbrücken, (West) Germany. After a seven-year stint as the lead singer of the all-female disco trio Arabesque, she went solo, scoring a string of European hit singles including "In the Heat of the Night" (1985), "Everlasting Love" (1987), "Secret Land" (1988), "Hiroshima" (1990), "Don't Be Aggressive" (1992) as well as her signature song, today's SOTD.

How big was this song (I'd never heard of)? It topped the charts in 21 countries back in 1985 and has more than 40 million views on YouTube since being uploaded in 2013.
