Song of the Day: 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' by Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli

My DVR captured this episode of "One Day at a Time" on Family Entertainment TV the other night, featuring a rapturous moment from my childhood that I remember watching when I was in fifth grade like it was yesterday. Every boy had a crush on Valerie Bertinelli -- and I was no exception, if you don't count my wanting to be her instead of be with her. Mackenzie Phillips inherited a little bit of musical talent from Papa John, but there's never been a cuter Elton John than the one here!

Dec. 28, 1976: Schneider and the Romanos put on a show for a local retirement home.

The original, above. And who remembers THIS drag of a version?

Although I loved "Supermodel," I must say I was a little underwhelmed when RuPaul's duet was released in 1993.

Valerie was a HUGE Elton fan...her first car was a Chevette and she had Elton's name painted on the door.

I remember seeing the One Day at a Time version when I was a kid, too. I wasn't really a fan of the show, but somehow I caught and remembered that episode.

Why do a fell a strange pang of guilt by typing "me too" when I also watched the 1st time around?
