Song of the Day: 'Runnin' Away' by Sly and the Family Stone

Yet another one from 1972, of course!

Here's one of Sly and the Family Stone's lesser-known singles that didn't quite light up the charts the way "Everyday People," "Family Affair" and "Hot Fun in the Summertime" did. (It's arguably their finest, however.) What "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" (and "Divorce" before it) lack(ed) in evenness, they both made up for in high-quality soundtracks. And if I'm being fair, Damian and I finally started watching season 3 of "Maisel" and it's been pretty enjoyable. I think kicking the can with dread for so long reduced our expectations so low that there was no way it could be as bad as we convinced ourselves!

P.S. Fun covers alert:

Both the famed Raincoats and the Colourfield (Terry Hall's post-Fun Boy Three project) recorded versions of this one.

This was a bit of an MTV hit, if memory serves me correctly, off the band's second and final album, "Deception."
