The only thing stranger than this country single crossing over to be a No. 15 pop hit is that its followup, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," went all the way to No. 1!
As a little boy, I didn't understand what "she makes me glad that I'm a man" meant. And to this day, I still haven't figured it out. :-)

Was just about old enough to start being aware of popular music when these were released. In so far as being strange hits, it was the 70s. It was the decade of lots of strange and hindsight awkward hits.
