I have mixed feelings about the final big event leading into this year's U.S. Open. While I don't think either winner will be much of a threat in New York -- I predict they will both be too exhausted to perform well, going against the traditional role of tuneups portending champions -- at least both tournaments ended with what I consider the right outcome.
Why do I feel confident he would not be doing THIS with a same-sex partner?
Daniil Medvedev seized his maiden Masters title, defeating David Goffin 7-6(3), 6-4. The Russian continued the form that saw him reach three finals in three weeks, losing in Washington to Nick Kyrgios and in Montreal to Rafael Nadal before coming out on top at the Western & Southern Open.
It was nice to see Goffin do well, but it made a lot more sense for Medvedev to win, having played so consistency and even knocking out Novak Djokovic in the semis. (Nole seems so Serena to me now, only able to lift his game when it counts most ... like down two match points in the final of Wimbledon.)

Madison Keys rallied late in both sets and beat an on-fire Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5, 7-6 (5) for her first Cincinnati championship Sunday, sending her back into the Top 10 just in time for the final Grand Slam event of the season. Again, it was an incredible run for Svetlana, whose injuries saw her going into the event ranked about 150 in the world (Today she woke up at No. 62.) It would have been preposterous for Keys, the 2017 U.S. Open finalist, to blow this opportunity. Yet still I'm praying her body holds up long enough to win her first major, something I don't see happening in Flushing Meadows.
And just out of curiosity, does anyone know the age of consent in Ohio?

Stefanos Tsitsipas got knocked out in the first round of Cincy by Jan-Lennard Struff. But that didn't stop the Greek character from posting lots of stuff to social media, like this video of his hunky trainer, Nick Tzekos.
We had spotted Nick (and Daddy) last weekend in Washington ...
