Harvey Grins and Bears It

Somebody sure was alert yesterday at the vet's office -- and not that happy.

Harvey is a good shape -- hasn't gained an ounce unlike his fathers -- but they are recommending a professional teeth cleaning.

Estimated cost? $1,000 -- and doesn't include laser whitening.

Anyone have experience with this?

It’s 400 for a 105 pound Labrador in Orlando. He does have calculus. For Manhattan and sedation not surprising.

my friends' Vet has them using Greenies Cat Dental Treats. the two cats love them and the vet said they're working.

I think I had my cats teeth cleaned or scraped a few times on their annual visit. It was suggested I brush them. Never did. At a $1000 Harvey can gum his food.

My male cat eats wet food and has dental issues...same price to clean them. I too am trying the Greenies...they seem to work. I bought the cat teeth cleaning kit (with toothpaste!)...but haven't tried it yet. My female cat only eats dry food and her teeth are great.

if he is looking like he is getting inflamed gums and is in pain, then yes, cleaning should be done... unfortunately our cat had chronic gum issues by the time he was 1 and had to have all his back teeth pulled ($4k) but is much happier now without them....

Get a health care plan for him at Banfield (in many Petsmart stores). It's much less expensive and includes annual dental cleaning. My 16 year old cat still has all but one of her teeth thanks to regular cleaning.
