Song of the Day: 'Heart' by Rockpile

True story: I signed up for Spotify -- and ended up ditching my 900 compact discs -- because I had an overwhelming desire to hear "Seconds of Pleasure," Rockpile's sole album, and didn’t have my copy “on” me at work. I've picked "Heart" because there was a video of sorts for it, but every song is equally good. Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe have done plenty of other great work together and solo, but there'll never be an album as wonderful as this.

Kenneth, could you clarify what you meant by "and ended up ditching my 900 compact discs?" It cannot mean what it sounds like.

I find it very hard to believe that you have discarded the physical copies of your music library. Even if something compelled you take that step, it certainly would warrant more than a casual mention in a thread about a specific album. This would be a far more monumental decision.

So what did you mean?

I adore(d) Rockpile. Of course, a lot of Edmunds and Lowe's solo work was just mostly Rockpile - just without the moniker.

@Alan: Well, it was a long time in the making. My CDs have been collecting dust since I ripped them all to my hard drive and started using an iPhone to listen to them. Then Damian moved into my tiny abode and space became even more of a premium — so getting those three large CD storage racks out of the place to make room for his clothes was essential. I did buy storage binders and started putting the discs (and the booklets) in them, but as I was doing so I realized it was sort of a waste of time. Truth is my record collection was a huge part of my childhood, but my CDs were just a replacement for an era gone by. :-(

Absolutely GREAT band! Lowe and Edmunds. This album is good but their solo work is great. Lowe's production work and writing is also fantastic (suggest his 1st album, a pop classic), and Edmunds' as a guitarist (check out Sabre Dance)is simply superb.
