One Step Beyond

Picked up on our Hitchcock theme by seeing a special 3-D presentation of "Dial M for Murder" at the Village Cinema East. It was my "first" 3-D movie, and what a way to begin, with Grace Kelly at her most luminous and Robert Cummings looking every bit the part of "another man." Love how a nearly two hour film can be almost entirely set in a single room yet you're engrossed from beginning to end.

I use the scare quotes on first because I attempted to see the third "Jaws" with my Michigan best friend, Mark, in the summer of '83 at the Fiesta Village in Mesa, but had to get a refund after explaining to the manager the film was in "negative 3-D"!

Although the effects weren't working -- the projector must have been failing -- and I got a major headache, I did stay seated long enough to fall in lust with John Putch, whose Hanes-briefs-romp-in-the-sand may just have been what sealed the deal for my homosexuality. Swoon ...
